I love a good rooftop in the summer. A place to escape to from the bustling city below and have a cocktail and watch the sunset while looking out over the landscape. I especially love discovering cool rooftops when I travel, as most cities have them. I’ve been in Barcelona most of this summer, and I’ve discovered a few rooftops that I absolutely love. Here are my favorites.
La Isabella at Hotel 1898, located right on the busy Las Ramblas. It has a beautiful wrap-around deck with pool on one side and a bar/lounge area covering the rest. You wouldn’t even know there were thousands of people right below you on Las Ramblas, as it’s completely quiet and peaceful on the roof.
Ohla Barcelona is another great one, located on beautiful Via Laietana. With a zero edge pool and gorgeous views of the city and the Barcelona Cathedral, Ohla is quite impressive. Come around 7pm (when it opens to the public) for cocktails and tapas. One thing to remember is that most of these rooftops are open only to the hotel guests during the day, then open to the public in the evening for sunset so best to call ahead and find out.
Now for one of my favorites, the Sky Bar at Hotel Grand Central. Also located on Via Laietana, which is a great location and close to everything in the city center. This hotel is super chic and as you walk out onto the roof it’s a little difficult not to say “wow” just because it’s so pretty. Complete with rooftop lounge and pool, it’s the perfect spot to come for sunset cocktails and stay until dark to see the pool light up with different colors, the twinkling city lights and listen to great music.
Another fun rooftop venue is Hotel Pulitzer right next to Catalonia Square. Most nights of the week they have live music or DJ’s performing.
